About the Artist

Jason Amatangelo’s work explores how he can trick your eye into believing what it’s seeing.  Amatangelo plays with depth in his paintings and images of things we find in our everyday lives, whether a drawing, vintage photograph, or even money. Over many years of experimentation, Amatangelo has developed a unique style reminiscent of his background studying animation at Edinboro University.  His work illustrates his own little worlds, which is why he has been fascinated with animation.  Spending many Saturday mornings eating cereal and watching cartoons, little did he know this would develop into his style of work. While Amatangelo’s work isn’t cartoon characters, the geometric forms and bold colors imply the worlds found in animation that can’t be done in real life.

Amatangelo lives in Erie, PA, with his wife and three kids; his studio is in historic Little Italy. Over the years, Amatangelo’s process has evolved along with this art to make more complex, exciting work.  The use of technology and traditional methods are at the heart of his process, and it’s ever-changing as new techniques are adapted to Amatangelo’s style.  Amatangelo’s works are in private collections worldwide, as well as public spaces and corporate offices such as Hilton Hotels, Erie Insurance, and Kroger.  Amatangelo’s Public Murals can also be seen in multiple cities as the list keeps growing.
